Chile: Atacama Desert in the snow

July 8, 2011 - CHILE - One of the driest places on the planet has just experienced its heaviest snowfall for the last two decades. As reported by the BBC, the region of the Atacama Desert in Chile and 'virtuallyburied under 31.5 cm of snow in front after a cold frontthat brought freezing temperatures in much of South America, including Argentina and Uruguay. ChileanMeteorological Agency officials said they had not seen much in the amount of snow in almost 20 years.Local media reported that authorities' have saved 36 people who were trapped in the storm, reports the Associated Press. - Huffington post-treatment by:
